Plug Your Nose!
Bret is insisting that I update the cannonball picture, so here is a new one. I have to admit, this is a great shot of Bella jumping in with her nose plugged. The best part is she always lets go of her nose before she hits the water!
Cannonball!!!
It's Just Little
Freak Storm
My poor zucchinis, basically the whole garden was destroyed, but we are trying to nurse it back. I would be so sad to miss out on tomatoes this year!
It looks like snow, but it is piles of hail, in July! These little piles were all over the neighborhood. In one spot the water came down so fast and shot across the street with enough pressure to knock out the basement windows of a house.
A new lake. We didn't get a good picture, but people where out there swimming and even in a canoe. It was quite a sight!
Side note- Bella and I missed the whole thing. She woke up in the morning and the first thing she said when she came into my room was she needed to go to Nordstrom. Kid after my own heart, how could I say no? We spent the entire morning playing fashion show and shopping for school clothes. It was great!
August 18th
Happy 4th!
Come afternoon, it was time to celebrate in typical Baker fashion, swimming! Add good food and better company and it made for a great afternoon.
Bella and Lily had a great time jumping to Uncle Chris in the pool!
We ended the night with fireworks, which freaked out Isabelle completely. She wouldn't come out, not even for the vanity she has been wanting for months. I guess the pyro gene hasn't been passed along.

Restful Weekend?
This last weekend was supposed to be a restful and fun time for the whole family. Bret was scheduled for a great weekend in Texas with his Dad, packed with golfing and baseball. Mom and Bella had planned to do, in Bella's words "lots of fun girly things." Mom had planned to finish moving the office downstairs and start getting the nursery finished. Oh the best laid plans.
We took Dad to the airport Thursday and settled in to watch a little Shrek. That night I got really sick, throwing up, the works. I figured I ate something, but it really wiped me out. I was able to get cute Caitlin to babysit for me most of the next afternoon, while I slept. Grandma Chris called to check on me, and when she found out how sick I was, she immediately made plans to take Bella for the night. I spoke with Bret during this time and he had gotten sick too. We figured it was some sort of food poisoning, but couldn't really figure out what we had eaten. We both just kind-of chalked it up to bad luck. Bret ended up being able to golf on Friday, but had to miss the baseball game that night.
Friday night I started feeling a little better and decided it was a good idea to clean the bathroom. (Don't ask how a pregnant mind works!) I had just about finished when I began to have serious pain in my back. I figured I had just twisted or the baby was lying funny so I took a long bath. It did not get better. Since it was just on one side and a constant pain, I didn't think I was in labor, but I was getting a little nervous. I decided it was time to go to the hospital and get checked. This was about midnight so I jumped in the car and went.
Just a quick sidebar, people have been asking me why I drove myself, let me explain, again, keep in mind there is no telling why a pregnant mind thinks the way it does. This was one of those fluke weekends, where there was no-one around to call. Grandma Chris, Matt and Natalie already had taken Bella for the night. Candice and Chris were my next closest option, and Chris travels so much I didn't want to wake up Candice if Chris was out of town. Lauren and Paul were too far away. My parents are on a cruise. Heather was at youth conference, so I could call Treavor, but what would he do with Sam. Dan was in Lake Powell. Katie and Jared have a new baby so the last thing they needed was a wake-up call at midnight. Matt and Kristie are single, have lives and most likely were out and about, combined with the fact that by the time one of them would make it to my house, I could be at the hospital. Bret and I had timed the drive on the way to my last appointment, so I knew I just needed to make it through 25 minutes. Let's just say, I did it in less than 20.
I made it to the hospital and got checked in. There is just something about hospitals that make you lose all your dignity. I wonder if it is on purpose. There is something about throwing up with your entire backside falling out of the back of your gown, that just doesn't help. Of course, when the nurse walked in, saw my urine sample and said "It looks like someone is in serious pain." matters didn't get any better. Luckily, she didn't come back.
It was determined I had some kidney stones and that I could have morphine. Thank goodness for drugs and a very kind nurse. I laid there begging for the pain to go away and kept asking how many minutes until the pain was gone. The kind woman, rubbed my back the whole time and kept telling me, any minute now or just a few more minutes, until I passed out.
I drifted in and out all night until Dr. Later checked on me at 8:00 the next morning. He confirmed that it was kidney stones. He also let me know I have now experienced the one thing more painful than childbirth. He figured somehow I got dehydrated and it created the kidney stones, or at least that is what I took away.
At this point, I still hadn't told anyone where I was. I didn't want to ruin Bret's big golfing weekend. He and Clyde had been planning this for a while and I knew it was important. Chris called to check on me in the morning and she wisely said it didn't matter what I thought, Bret needed to know what was going on. She called and they got him on the next flight home. Luckily, it was late enough he could finish his round of golf, but ruined the great dinner Clyde had planned. I'm sorry Clyde, I owe you some ribs and a pie!
I was released about noon and Chris and Matt came and picked me up. Matt even went and filled my prescriptions for me. I spent the day sleeping in Chris's bed, while Natalie and Matt entertained a little shadow all day long. (Bella has a slight crush on Uncle Matt now, he is her only valentine at the moment.) Chris even tried to come and clean my house for me, but unfortunately, my house key doesn't work and she couldn't get in the house. This is probably for the best, because I would die if she saw my closet!
Bret made it home at about 8:00 that night. I have to admit, as much as I didn't want to ruin Bret's trip, I was so glad to see him. I didn't realize how much I wanted him home until he was there. He took me home and spent Sunday pampering me and despoiling Bella. He even took her to church. (We never have to worry about going inactive, Bella freaks when she doesn't get to go to church.) I pretty much slept all day long.
Monday Bret had to go to work, so Bella spent the day with Aunt Jen. Even though, she was barely home from Powell, she didn't think twice about keeping her for the day and even sent home dinner. I thought Bret was going to cry at a homemade meal, and just not to have to worry about it. Thanks Jen, you were a lifesaver.
Yesterday, Bella spent the day with Grandma Chris again, who had not only Bella, but also Lily and Melia that night. (Poor little Holly was in the hospital again.) Needless to say, Grandma Chris has gone above and beyond to really help me out. I can't thank you enough.
As for me, I am feeling much better, the pain is gone, so I am guessing the stones have passed. And other than feeling water logged and Bret freaking out about me being in the sun, oh, and being 8 months pregnant, I am doing great! I am sure this is too much info, but I wanted to remember and in case I ever have this printed, it was something I wanted included!
