With summer lasting forever this year, the girls have been able to spend plenty of extra time outside doing some of their favorite things. whenever these two get a quick minute, they grab the chalk and start to color. They have also discovered if you get the chalk wet, it works even better!
June was just wondering how the blue chalk tastes.

Just one example of their fine work! It is sad to see the rain on the forecast and know these days are at an end!
Crazy Weekend
Sunday, September 19, 2010
I am ever glad this weekend is over. It has been a crazy one for Bella. It started out with a dentist appointment on Friday. Bella refuses to get in the dentists chair, so we had to make an appointment with a pediatric dental anesthesiologist in order for her to have a couple of cavities filled. Just by seeing his title, that tells you it wasn't cheap! We started the afternoon by giving her a Valium which just made her hysterical, and of course set of June too. Poor Bret. I was already in the dentists chair having the last of my ugly silver fillings replaced, while he was in the waiting room dealing with these out of control girls. Luckily, Dr. Jon has an awesome staff who soon had toys for the girls and lots of Scooby Doo coloring pages.
After my appointment, it was time for Bella. I was holding her on my lap, and the doctor was trying to have others distract her while he gave her a shot, she noticed the needle and freaked out, so June freaked out and had to be taken to the car. I ended up just holding Bella for a few minutes until she eventually conked out. It was a little upsetting to watch so I am glad I was prepped and told what would happen. After that, they took her back to the dentists chair and waited and waited. It was almost 2 hours, but Dr. Jon took care of everything. It turns out she had some exposed nerves and he ended up having to do 2 baby root canals along with the fillings. Thank goodness she was under, can you imagine my hysterical daughter just sitting there for a root canal?
When the dental work was all done, they brought out of the anesthesia. You should have seen this kid fight. She was determined she was getting up and out of the dentists chair. Jon had to hold her while I grabbed Bret, she is just so strong. We brought her home, totally loopy and rested with her for the day. Now when I say rested, I mean, I stayed with her while she fought of these drugs, she was laughing, she was crying, she was sleepy, you name it, but we worked through it.
The next day everything seemed fine, but she kept complaining about her ear. She has been talking about water in her ear for a while, I just figured it was swimmers ear and would clear up on it's own. At about 9:30, she was so upset that Bret decided to run her to the doctor. Turns out she had an ear infection. The comment from the doctor "Wow, that is really bad." So much for it clearing up on it's own. So after medicating her and getting her to sleep, we both sighed in relief.
Now it is all over, she seems to be her old self. Please, let's stay with the happy healthy Bella!
Soccer and Sam!

Bella had another game this weekend, and she did pretty good considering. But the best part...
Sam came to the game!!! She was so excited and kept shouting to everyone, "That's my cousin, Sam." even though she was supposed to be playing. It was cute to see her try to play really hard to impress him!

Huntsville
Sunday, September 12, 2010
Since we were out and about, I had a few historical markers for us to find on the way home. We focused on Huntsville.
We found the marker for Jefferson Hunt, whom the town was named after.

Mary Smith, who delivered more than 1500 babies including 9 of her own.
This is a monument to the residents of Huntsville. All of these were at a great city park.
Across the street, we found the monument to original settlers of Huntsville, who were mostly Danish.
In front of the Aldous cabin, closed for tours on Sundays.
A fountain in the park. (I'm not sure the significance of this, but it was on the list.)
Lastly, there should have been a marker here about Utah's first free school teacher, but it seems to be gone, along with the Valley School. We were pretty disappointed that the school has been torn down. This was the first school were Grandpa DeYoung was a principal. He used to drive here every day from Ogden. I had hoped for a picture.
After checking out the monuments, we spent a few minutes in the great city park. It had this very slick and speedy old slide built into a tree.
We drove by the boyhood home of David O. McKay on our way out of town, but didn't stop. We did stop at Snow Basin which was beautiful and had a little lunch at The Oaks. What a busy and fun weekend!
Cabin
Saturday, September 11, 2010
After months of talking about it, we finally took Uncle Mike and Aunt Susan up on their offer of using their cabin for the weekend. Bella was so excited, she couldn't wait to get there and told everyone she saw about us going to the cabin. Grandma Chris came with us and we headed up Friday evening. we made it just before dark and got everything unpacked and settled just as the sun went down. It was perfect as we couldn't get the generator running. Luckily, this just made for an adventure. We spent the first night visiting by firelight and then to bed. Thank goodness for the wood burning stove, because there was frost on everything in the morning, but we all stayed nice and cozy in our beds.
There is nothing quite like the hair on my girls in the morning. (It looks like this every morning and I always get a kick out of it.) Notice the mark on Junie's forehead. She woke up in the middle of the night, sleeping for the first time in a big girl bed. (A cute toddler bed that Grandpa DeYoung actually made for Grandma Chris when she was a baby.) She was so excited, she started jumping on the bed and saying "Cabin, Cabin." and bam, she smacked herself right in the middle of her forehead. After a restful morning, we headed out to check out the area.
We were hiking around Moose Lake when we met some friendly fishermen and this little guy. What a cute little frog.

This is the reaction of the girls to this little guy. You would have thought it was a dinosaur from the screams and hysterics. Good thing the fisherman had already caught breakfast because I am sure we scared everything far, far away!
After we calmed down and had a little lunch, Bella wanted to try out the ATV's. A good helmet is always a must!
She and Bret had a great time. She was laughing, yelling and holding her arms in the air. Thank goodness!
Later in the afternoon, we headed down to a picnic area with a great stream that the girls loved crossing on the rocks.
Junie tried the bridge, but wanted to jump across the rocks, same as Sissy.
Once she knew about the rocks, she was not happy to be on the bridge again.
We saw some moose, but didn't get close enough for any pictures. We did see quite a few beaver dams and Bret decided he needed a stick for his stick collection. (I am not sure what this is, I would guess I have thrown it out if he really does have a stick collection!)
We spent a lot of time relaxing on the front deck. Bella blew bubbles.
Junie tried really hard to blow the bubbles.
Junie turned into the grumpopatomus without her nap so we tried and tried to appease her. Finally, I rocked her to sleep in the buffalo chair. Bret made us an awesome dutch oven dinner, which was a ton of work.
Junie stayed asleep so we had a great evening around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.
